"So I've seen her now, this woman he's obsessed with."

"Oh? What's she like?"

"Well, she's pretty, but not, y'know, insanely beautiful or anything. Her hair's a bit crazy and she's kind of skinny. She's got a pretty face, though. Good skin."

"Did you speak to her?"

"No. I just saw her in the street. I was with Sara and she's met her before so she pointed her out to me."

"Right."

"It felt a bit weird, watching her. I wasn't too worried about her seeing me or anything. She looked preoccupied. She wouldn't know me, anyway. It was more, there she was, I feel like I know so much about her, but now there she is, the real thing. Putting all that stuff to a face. Funny."

"He's still talking about her a lot?"

"Yeah."

"Sucks."

"Yeah, tell me about it. I mean, we've been to things together quite a few times now - there've been work things but we saw that play and last week we went to another film. And there he is, polite and funny and kind of shy but after a while he talks and we really get along. We like a lot of the same stuff. But sooner or later she always crops up in the conversation. They've known each other a while and he talks about stuff she does and things she says and she just sounds like the most exciting person. He gets all lightheaded and gushy. It's so frustrating. I like him, I really do and if he wanted to... y'know, I would. But he doesn't. He's nice and sort of kind but he just talks about her. Stupid. Life's pretty unfair sometimes."
